CREATIVITY || GOODBYE DOWNTON ABBEY - I'LL MISS YOU

So I watched the series finale of Downton Abbey this week....finally. I've been holding off for ages because....well...I just didn't want it to be over. Yes, some of the past season or so have had some boring stages but darn did it pick back up this season. Regardless, I'm a huge fan of the show and it really was one of my favourites. I will miss the characters, yes even Daisy...lol. I thought it would be fun to reminisce a bit about how Downton has played it's own role in my creative journey.

Knitting and Downton on VeryShannon.com

In 2012 I released my 3rd knitting pattern inspired by Downton Abbey called "Downton". It's still one of my best selling patterns. It was inspired by the shot of Downton that comes up in between commercials on the black screen with the white outline, all the ups and downs of the roofline, and of course, the ups and downs of life at Downton.

I photographed Downton here in Victoria, BC, Canada at Craigdarroch Castle here in town. My lovely sister modelled for me while pregnant with her first child (she now has two!!). Boy how time flies!

Downton is a fun knit that goes quite quickly, is great for gift knitting, and a wonderful intro to a bit of lace knitting. There is written instructions and an easy to read chart. This pattern is taught in classes as well and I still love seeing all of your versions pop up on Ravelry! In fact, I need another one for myself :)

We even ran a Downton Abbey Knit Along! Man was that fun! We still have a pinterest board with pattern ideas that were "downton-esque" if you're so inspired to whip something up! You can also still go through our Ravelry thread for that knit along HERE as well. And if you'd like to revisit the blog posts from that time, boy are they old...lol...you can find them HERE (some of my old backlinks aren't working so this search page is easier to find the posts).

Downton Abbey

I really enjoyed how they finished the series, but at the same time it's hard to say goodbye to all of the characters and not want to know......just that little bit more...lol. ;) Rumour mill is saying there may be a movie being made? I'm going to hope for that and keep my fingers crossed it's good. It would be so fun to see the Downton cast on the big screen!

In the meantime, I'll be here knitting, drowning my sorrows in my coffee & tea and gearing up for rewatching the whole series. So here's to all the wonderful memories & inspiration watching Downton has brought me - to the many hours I rocked & fed my two little girls, knit till late at night, cried, cheered and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thank you Downton.

Ok....who's with me for a group hug? Share your downton memories below! I'd love to hear how you feel about the show ending. xoxo

p.s. I shared a bit about my Downton sadness on Instagram the other day and it sparked a fun array of comments. You can read them HERE.
