calling all knitters - clicks for babies: period of purple crying caps

it's my party hat (created especially for click for babies)

ok all you knitters out there (or soon to be knitters) i'm interrupting our regularly schedule summer sweater knit along post today to tell you about a project that goes on every year that i think is very special.  it's called "click for babies".  it's a charitable movement to raise awareness about the "period of purple crying".  knitters all over north america whip up adorable purple newborn hats to donate to all the new babies being born in november along with information about this difficult crying phase.
joining in and knitting these cute little hats helps to raise awareness about the period of purple crying and the shaken baby syndrome.  as a parent myself this is such an important topic to educate parents about right from their new babies birth, and it also helps them to understand the normalcy of this type of crying and how to handle the frustration that can accompany it.

in honor of click for babies i thought i would round up some of my fave newborn hat patterns that you can make to donate to this worthwhile cause.  click for babies is asking you knit from "5 to 50 or any number in between of PURPLE colored baby caps using soft baby friendly yarn and send them to the organizers in your state/province."  there are a few guidelines to follow for baby safety and they can be found here under knit.   you can also see my post from last year which includes another roundup of fun hat patterns here.

*as always most of these patterns are on ravelry.com.  you can find me & our "luvinthemommyhood group" on ravelry as well.

1. easy peasy newborn sock hat 2. rosa villosa 3. butterfly hat 4. trendy baby hat

and also preemie hats for charity and lucias organic beanie are good choices as well.

so get those needles out & get clicking.  this is a fun project to do on your own or as part of an online or in person knitting group and most of all - have fun with it :)

you can find a ton of info (including where to mail your hats) on click for babies here and the period of purple crying here.  you can also follow along the click for babies movement on facebook and twitter.  if you know of a friend or family member who is dealing with the period of purple crying please reach out to them and let them know they are not alone.  us moms gotta stick together :)

"Each and every day infants across North America are shaken and abused because the person caring for them became frustrated with their crying. Many times the abuse could have been prevented had the person caring for the infant only known that early infant crying may be normal."

what is your favorite newborn hat to make?  do you have a go to yarn you use for delicate baby skin?  have you dealt with the period of purple crying yourself or with a loved one?  do you have any advice to give for those who are dealing with it? let's chat ladies!
