Violette Field Threads Pattern Giveaway!

i'm so excited about today's giveaway!  when the two talented ladies behind violette field threads - ericka & jessica, wrote me to do a giveaway i was in!  their lovely, detailed and gorgeous patterns are to die for!  these best friends have created a shop filled with dreamy, wearable and oh so gorgeous clothing & accessory patterns.  i'm also happy to have them as one of luvinthemommyhood's newest sponsors.

i'm even getting in on the action.  look for a pattern review from me in the new year!  i cannot wait to be able to sew again so i can dive right into the projects i have planned with my violette field threads patterns!  their patterns include full tutorials with loads of clear pictures, step-by-step instructions, that are printable - computer drawn pieces that require no scaling.

their clothing patterns also come in a vast range of sizes from infant to children as old as 10!  i love that!  it means i can make the same item for both my girls! woot woot!   violette field threads accessory patterns are also sized for child to adult so you can sport one too!  they also include with your patterns a size chart, fabric requirements, fabric recommendations, notions, and sewing tips.  their patterns would be perfect for any skill level from beginner to advanced.

they've got dresses, skirts, bottoms, bloomers, flowers, headbands...

and their newest pattern for "coco" mittens are seriously awesome!  coming in child - adult sizes, showing you how to make coco by upcycling a sweater or by using knit fabric, in lots of different styles! so fun!

The pictures in the book are absolutely beautiful and make me want to pull out my quilting supplies right away. Personally I love charm packs and jelly rolls. Although any precuts are fine by me. I've been known to sit and play with precuts for hours rearranging them exploring all different possibilities. The gifts that keep on giving.

and the winner of a 3pack bundle of tutorial e-books from Birdsong Bows is:

Coastal Knits Book Review & Giveaway!

*this giveaway is now closed. thank you for all of your entries. good luck!"

so excited for today's post ladies!  to say i was giddy when i was able to get my hands on a copy of the fabulous book "coastal knits: a collaboration between friends on opposite shores" by alana dakos of "never not knitting" and hannah fettig of "knitbot" is seriously an understatement.  the day they posted some of the projects in the book on ravelry i went nuts and pinned everything and faved everything and emailed hannah & alana begging them to let me join in on the book tour.  i knew i had to share this book with you all and to also give you fellow knitting addicts a chance to win what is now my most favorite knitting book evah!!!!  love it!

"coastal knits" is all about two friends who live on opposite shores sharing patterns that are dear to them that capture their style and aesthetic as well as the essence of the landscapes around them.  the book opens with q & a's with both authors allowing us to get to know them on a more personal level, a section on the yarn choices that they made that are local to their area and then all throughout the book there are pages showing which area where they live inspired the patterns they chose!  how fun is that!  i loved it!   i think a lot of artists are inspired by the regions they live in and it's so interesting to see where they live and what captured their creative eye.

 Rocky Coast Cardigan
and the sweaters....well....let me just say i love them all....and  i've said it here about ten times already and i'm gonna say it again - i am obsessed with the rocky coast cardigan!  LOVE IT! i cannot wait to get going on it. i just need to get my yarn and i'm casting on.  and the rest of the patterns....yummy!  the book doesn't disappoint!  wowsa!  i was drooling as soon as i opened it up.  i ended up in a knitting coma from the high of pattern excitement...haha.  too...much...good...stuff :)

1. Gnarled Oak Caradigan  2. Wildflower Cardigan
there is the soft, femininity with wonderful lines and thoughtful details that alana does so well...

1. Water's Edge Cardigan 2. Bayside Pullover
and the modern, classic twists that hannah is known for.

Cambrian Cowl
the book is broken down into two sections - sweaters and accessories.  each page another treasure to be found.  another tidbit to be learned about these two friends.  another new illustration, another addicting graphic detail or lovely landmark.  as someone who is a die hard book lover and one who relishes the little details people put into these kinds of books i was absolutely swooning over the job that coastal knits graphic designer - mary joy gumayagay did.  i think i have read this book at least 5-6 times now and i still keep finding details that i missed the time before.  it's truly addicting.

neesha hudson's illustrations spoke right to me.  so stylish and modern i think they truly brought something special to alana and hannah's book.  i thoroughly enjoyed it along with the photography in the book by both authors as well as the lovely shots taken by carrie bostick hoge (madder made/quince & co. designer).  alana and hannah have truly written a book that i believe has brought something new and fresh to knitting publications.  it's something that i know i will be looking at for years to come.

would you like to have one for yourself?  here ya go ladies!

- one lucky winner will win their very own copy of coastal knits!  thanks alana and hannah!

- simply leave a comment below telling us which pattern you are dying to knit up from this fab book!

- all comments must include a valid email address or you will be disqualified.
- giveaway is open until november 20, 2011 midnight pacific standard time

Panoramic Stole

Shoeology Shoe Pattern Giveaway!!!!

*THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS FOR YOUR ENTRIES!*

i've got a thing for shoes.  i love me a good pair of shoes but what i love almost as much as going out and buying myself a new pair of shoes is the idea of making my own.  how fun is that?  what...make my own shoes???  yeppers, you heard right.  make my own shoes.

doesn't that just sound deliciously fun?  whatever color, fabric, style i want.  soft and comfortable & you can wear them outside to boot!  my longtime sponsor shoeology makes it possible!

not just handmade custom shoe patterns for momma though, but also for the kids and the babies!  both boys and girls!  i know...it's fabulous right!  get a looksie at cheri's newest pattern - the owls & chicks kids slippers!  so adorable!

or how about some of shoeology's patterns for babies...

perfect for any set of tootsies!  great shower gifts too!  how cute would a pair of the retro sneakers be for a new baby boy/girl with some matching accessories or outfit?  i mean seriously...ahhhdorable!

but i know what you ladies are thinking how can you wear them outside?  check out the soles on this stylish pair.  instead of using fabric for your soling material you simply use waterproof soling instead that you can buy right from shoeology too!  easy peasy!

but she doesn't just have shoes...how about some bahama sandals?  i'm freaking out over these. i mean how fab would these be in your newest fave fabric print?  you could even repurpose so many things to make these fun sandals - purses, jackets, you name it.

shoeology patterns are filled with full color pics, paper patterns, clear explanations, and easy to follow step by step instructions that cover every step in detail and best of all you don't need any fancy gadgets to make shoeology patterns.  you just need your sewing machine and the right needle for the materials you are working with.  remember the pair i made in the spring?

http://www.luvinthemommyhood.com/2011/02/i-made-shoesand-sweet-pea-patterns.html
i made the adorable london loafer pattern for harper from a fave quilting cotton for the top and refashioned maternity jean denim for the soles.  i cannot wait to make more for the family.  i'm thinking about trying out the pair below for mackenzie for the fall.  they are addicting and oh so rewarding.  the idea of making ones own shoes is just so fun to me and i had a great time making harper's pair.  you can read my review of shoeology's patterns right here.

Winner of the Knitbot/Hannah Fettig Pattern Giveaway!!! (and some thoughts)

we've got a winner of the knitbot/hannah fettig pattern giveaway but first i have to say that i had other things planned to post about as well today but if any of you have been watching the news or are hockey fans you would know what i was up late glued to the tv watching.  i'm embarrassed, ashamed and mortified by the behaviour of some idiotic people destroying and rioting vancouver last night after the vancouver canucks lost the stanley cup.  it was bad enough we lost (insert my tears...i'm devastated) but to top it off by humiliating vancouver, the province and the country?  what the heck people?  you could tell the main group of people doing most of the damage had planned this, i mean who goes to the hockey game equipped with bombs???  it was sad to sit and watch one of the most beautiful cities that is very dear to my heart get trashed by some drunk animals.

the scariest part was people just seemed to get more and more excited as it went on!  they had no fear, honestly.  cars were exploding, fires set, serious looting and the tear gas...oh the tear gas.  all of this was going on right near where we used to live and i could only imagine the smell especially with a baby!  so instead of wishing i was in vancouver watching the canucks i was finally happy i was in quiet victoria watching the tv safe at home.

so sorry folks, no special posts today.  but you won't mind....cause i've got the winner of the knitbot giveaway to announce.  want to know who won???

Book Review & Giveaway - The Big Book of Knitted Monsters

i love me some cute monsters. especially knitted ones by rebecca danger. i heart rebecca.

*this giveaway is now closed. thank you for all of your entries.*

i was thrilled when i found out she had released a book called "The Big Book of Mischievous Monsters", filled with the imaginative little creatures she brings to life! i thought a giveaway and review was in order :) now you can have a whole book filled, 20 monster patterns to be exact, to whip up for you, your friends and their friends!
i've been hooked on her work, patterns and sense of style since i first spotted those adorable, melt your heart - bunny nuggets!

i'm having a hard time deciding on which one to start with! mackenzie and i cannot make up our minds! i'm drawn to so many of them. i think my favorite part of the book are the names. hilarious. so funny. each of these little monsters have fun names that have to do with a theme. like.....

...baldwin the bathroom monster, lurleen the laundry monster, dot the dress up box monster, hugo the couch potato monster, tony the toy box monster, claude the closet monster and the list goes on...ahhhhdorable! so funny. i swear these monsters really do exist in my everyday life..haha.

the book also has some giggle moments. you get a glimpse of rebecca's wit and humor throughout the book in her writing and her knitting & finishing guidelines. i brought my copy out to knit night and we had a good chuckle over it. i personally loved her section on the magic loop method as i've yet to try it but am dying to. she's got tons of info on how to whip up these monsters and all her tips and tricks for finishing, eyes and other handy snippets of info.

if you've got a soft spot for knitted monsters "The Big Book of Knitted Monsters"is the book for you. there's a pattern in here for anyone and all skill levels. and guess what, because rebecca is so awesome we've even got a giveaway for you guys today too! wanna hear about it? here ya go...

moments in the mommyhood - little faces & a winner

i couldn't resist showing you all what i've been staring at in awe alot lately. i mean, seriously, how did she get to be almost 1??? i feel like i went to sleep one night with a newborn and woke the next day with a toddler! it's friggin frightening! i'm sad but happy at the same time. i'm still having a hard time saying goodbye to all things baby. i love that newborn stage and the time between 0-6mths. my favorite stage. i'm sad that i'll never get to experience that again. i keep turning into a blabbering fool every time i have to pack up her baby clothes and realize they will never again be worn by my babies :( i can't seem to part with them. i think my hormones are out of control..haha. i've got "i'm done having babies but still can't stop crying about having another one fever".

of course it doesn't help that harper is pretty much running sprints around the house, talking, and getting into all sorts of mischief. i miss the days of her laying in momma's arms for hours just staring up at me with love. i miss the calmness. now it's all fun & chaos & rambunctious laughter - which is good too, don't get me wrong, but damn i love those little baby snuggle moments. like these:

ok...i'm getting misty eyed. i better stop before i fill this whole post up with random pictures of harper's rise to toddlerhood. they are cute though...and of course then there is mackenzie. she's turning 4 next week. wth?! when did that happen too? i feel like some days when mack is at preschool that it's actually her home with me and not harper it's like weird dejavu. too much coffee and too little sleep i tell ya :P

ok, ok, i'm moving on. i know you are all dying to know who the winner is sooo....the winner of

the make it perfect sewing pattern giveaway is............................
