feeling inspired by

i can't stop looking at these dreamy, gorgeous, pictures by barbara cole for the may anthropologie catalogue. i keep thinking of them every time i have had to put my daughter in time out today due to this yucky rainy weather we've been having that has kept us trapped indoors. yep....i think these will work just fine...peace....quiet.....and i'm wearing a gorgeous dress.

is it just me or does her work remind you of "the lady of shallot" and anne of green gables? what do you think? do you have an image you think of when the kids are driving you mad?

Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

we are all about swimming in our house right now. swim lessons started up again the other week and mackenzie seems to count down the days until she can go to the pool and begs to go swim in the ocean, which, of course, she can't do right now. so this week's etsy monday in the mommyhood is inspired by swimming and all those lovely goodies we need when not swimming, um, buck naked :) hope you all had a great weekend and you can click here or on the pics for the links.

what are you loving this week?

reading pillow sewing pattern

i love this idea. etsy seller montessoribyhand has a great pattern for sale to make one of these handy pillows of your own. nevermind using this to assist kids with reading, i want one for myself! great idea! you can find the pattern here.

"the reading pillow is perfect for encouraging a child to read or providing relief for grandma’s arthritic hands. This pattern features straps to hold the book securely on the pillow and page holders to keep the book open, so your hands are completely free while reading. also included are some funky and useful twists, such as handmade piping, a built-in bookmark, and pockets for reading glasses and pencils.

the reading pillow pattern includes easy-to-follow photo tutorial instructions and full-sized pattern pieces."

elsa mora's blossom buddies

elsa mora blows my mind, there doesn't seem to be anything this ultra talented woman can't do. her paper cutting is to die for and she is beyond creative in her other endeavors. you can buy her handmade goods at her etsy shop here.

now to top it off, she has a gorgeous book coming out entitled "blossom buddies: a garden variety" in which she has created the most breathtaking creatures out of flowers. it's stunning. you can get a longer sneak peak and more info about the wonderful elsa herself on her blog here and you can pre-order the book that is due out on april 15th here. could you imagine the time and patience it would have taken to bring these little guys to life? i hardly have the time to brush my teeth never mind whip up a miniature world of flower people - amazing!

goop and spain - on the road again

i was reading angry chicken last night, in the dark of course (earth hour) and saw her mention about goop. goop is a blog by none other than gwyneth paltrow. goop is essentially a blog of newsletters that's emailed out once a week, that share her recipes, her personal travel notes, advice, exercise tips, clothes and much more. all i can say is wow. there is a lot of interesting and wonderful things to be found in some of these newsletters. some of the recipes were to die for and i especially loved her latest newsletter for the section BE on parenting. qwyenth posed a great a question and some wonderful women shared their thoughts and wisdom, one of whom is Cynthia Bourgeault, who amongst other things, is a principal visiting teacher for the contemplative society here in victoria, bc. it's worth a read - click here to check it out.

speaking of gwyneth, um, have i mentioned my absolute adoration for "spain - on the road again"? love, love, love this show. i cannot get enough of it. it makes my whole soul hurt with longing to be in that convertible squashed between gwynnie and mario, travelling across spain - eating! please, gwen, if you ever read this, can i come? i won't make any noise, ok, well, maybe sometimes, but i promise to be quiet and stay in the background, i just really, really want to go to spain. what a life she has. the scenery enough would make me think i had died and gone to heaven.

i catch this show in the late hours of the night when my daughter decides not to sleep, or i can't sleep, one or the other, and then stay up even later because i can't bear to miss another minute of the deliciousness of this fabulously warmhearted and funny show. i then bore poor jeremy with my long winded memories of the episodes i catch on pbs late night and try to remember if it was real or if i was dreaming? it's that beautfiul. check it out. you can find the website here and if the show isn't enough to whet your appetite they have a book and dvd as well.

posh puzzle books

i am a crossword puzzle addict and my hubby loves sudoku. i got a little giddy when i saw these gorgeous pocket posh books over on oh, hello friend. they are stunning! these would make the perfect little gift for mother's day or just a little "i was thinking of you" present. you can find "these sophisticated and feminine puzzle books small in size but big on fun & style" here.

earth hour - saturday, march 28th @ 8:30pm, no matter where you live

i have been saving this post unit it was actually close to the date. being a mom i understand how hard it is to remember everything, nevertheless a date that is months away. so here you go, mark your calendar, stick up a post it note, tell your hubby to remind you, earth hour is on saturday, march 28th at 8:30pm local time, wherever you live on planet earth.

in case you haven't already heard of earth hour, here's some info on what it is:

"This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming.

For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

VOTE EARTH by simply switching off your lights for one hour, and join the world for Earth Hour."

if you would like further information or ways you can help promote and spread the word about earth hour go to www.earthhour.org please take the time to watch the video below, it's only 30 seconds long.
