sewing area revamp part three - the chair!

remember a few months ago i finally found my new sewing chair after 2 years of looking for one that would fit underneath the dimensions of my sewing desk?  she was pretty right?  yep.  well, i've been looking since then for a home dec weight fabric that i loved that had some turquoise in it...surprise, surprise right?  well, i couldn't find any that fit what i imagined in my head.  so instead of wallowing any longer and despising the ugly worn fabric on there i decided to throw caution to the wind and add some whimsy to my little sewing wall.

i took my sketch of poppy (my new sewing machine) and headed on over to to go make my own turquoise fabric. now, one month or so & a sample later i've got my pretty fabric, borrowed a staple gun (that had staples in a turquoise container :P) and recovered my sewing chair!  isn't she pretty?!  well....almost.  i was originally going to keep the wood if i could on the chair but now, after it being recovered and me being almost certain that i'm going to paint the desk white (keep the hardware the same), i think the chair should either be a) grey b) white or c) turquoise.

what do you guys think?  you've helped me with this whole process and i feel like i'm about 3/4 of the way done.  just need to get the hubbies butt in gear painting/sanding my desk.  i mean, it's been 3 years it should be anytime now right????  do you like how the fabric turned out?  if you do you can have some too.  check out my page on spoonflower to get your own - find the link to the fabric here.

did you miss my other sewing area revamp posts?  here they are in case you want to join in.  i could use all the help i can get :)

sewing area revamp part one - pick a color, any color!

oh and don't worry.  i prettied up my space a bit...don't think the ironing board monster disappeared on you all.  he got bigger!  say hi monster :)   and yes, my sewing desk is never that clean either.  it's usually covered in thread, bobbins, scissors and an en mass of other thingamajiggers.  i'm sure you all can relate right?  i mean just look at my fabric.  horrible.  i really need to get on organizing that next but i'll save that for another post.

so....what do you guys think?  grey, white or turquoise for the chair?  do you still think the desk should be either all white or white with a colored top?  i'd love to hear your thoughts so come chat!

doily crafts & diy roundup

ohhhhhh, i'm so excited about this roundup you guys! doilies have been on my mind a lot lately. maybe it's because the universe seems to be hiding them from me at all my local thrift haunts and because i'm just too darn lazy & busy to make my own but i just keep seeing project after project with these lovely pieces of granny chicness! it's been driving me a bit batty. so instead of sitting here wallowing in my doily self pity i decided to put together a lovely roundup filled with my FAVE doily crafts & diy's that i've spotted floating around the blogoshpere. there are so many options when it comes to creating with doilies these are just a sampling of the ones i'm inspired by and i didn't even dive into the paper doily crafts. there's enough of those to make a whole other post.

so go find some doilies, raid your granny's linen closet, your local thrift shop, make some, doesn't matter where you find them just get some and get creating! cover your furniture, your home decor, your clothes, your soaps.....heck even rocks! just use those lacy pieces of goodness. i promise it'll brighten up your day and add a smile to your face!

sewing area revamp part two - blue for me, blue for you

ok, so we all know i went to ikea and literally had a serious case of retail therapy. my total wasn't too bad but i did use up my whole budget for my sewing wall revamp. it was exciting, but then again, you all know ikea is exciting, especially when you have to take a ferry and drive to get to the closest one.

i'm now in the nitty gritty of the revamp (read part one of the sewing area revamp here). things need to be assembled and they need to get organized...the right way...haha. the hubby has now learned his lesson about not reading the instructions. i've got fabric everywhere, notions, boxes, scraps, batting...etc that all needs a home. i ended up getting the following items (some extras & of course more fabric) and now have to decide what to put where. i'm thinking of the following:

my question for you all is how to display the fabric? how do you organize your fabric? folded, piled, stacked or on mini bolts? i'm thinking of using all the leftover cardboard from my ikea purchases to wrap the fabric around like bolts and then organzie them on the shelves. what do you guys think?

as for the desk, i'm feeling very torn. here's what my desk looks like now...

one part of my gemini personality wants to be daring and paint it my fave color of blue while the other part thinks that painting it all white is the way to go. maybe a comprimise? blue desk - white top? or white desk - blue drawers?

what do you guys think? share your tips and wisdom...this diy stuff is proving to be trickier than i thought. i can see what i want visually in my head but i need your guy's help to actually make it a reality. are any of you revamping your sewing area as well? link up, share a pic, comment below, i need inpsiration :)

make it for mom - mother's day roundup

ohhhh, here it is folks! here's the monster of a post that's kept me up late the last few nights while i endure my braxton hicks.....the make it for mom mother's day roundup that i guest blogged over on "made" for celebrating mom! pop on over to made and check it out!

To me, motherhood comes in many forms. being someone who thought she may never be able to have children of her own i learned through my own personal struggle that motherhood is in our lives in places we may not always want to look, such as adoption, in-vitro, surrogacy, etc., but it's there, patiently waiting. Being a mom doesn't mean you have to give birth, it means unconditional love. Whether that child has your DNA or not, each and every little angel deserves that special kind of love and giving birth isn't the only way to develop and nurture that precious bond.

Being a mom is something that can be made. Whether it's in the gift of a child from across the world, being the best auntie you can be to your niece or nephew or being a caring foster home, it doesn't matter, you make what your possibilities are and if you have the love to give by all means make it happen. So for Mother's Day I figured it was quite fitting during these times in our world to "make" a gift filled with love to give to that special lady (or ladies) in your life who share that special and wondrous bond with you. So have fun with the roundup, get creative and enjoy the special power and beauty of handmade love, there's something in here for everyone!
