etsy monday in the mommyhood

"Sewing fills my days, not to mention the living room, bedroom, and closets." ~ Author Unknown

1) tessa diy kit in cleo (3-4T) - you sew sassy

2) pillowcase dress diy kit with free matching hairbow (4 - 10yrs) - mellon monkeys

3) tessa diy kit in autumn (3-4T) - you sew sassy

4) pilowcase dress diy with free matching hairbow (birth to 3yrs) - mellon monkeys

i found these adorable, diy sewing kits for girl's dresses last week and couldn't resist doing an etsy monday in the mommyhood on them. i think this is a fab idea for sewer's. i can never find good material in the city i live in and order it mostly online anyways. these kits just save me the time and energy hunting all over for the right combos to put together and the pattern comes with to boot!

so next time you're in the mood to make your little angel a new dress why not try a kit instead?

have any of you tried these before? or do you sell them?

moms in the mommyhood - melissa laster

we have a new "moms in the mommyhood"!

say hello to melissa from the shop "indie sunshine"! from the first moment melissa emailed me i knew i had to fit her in as a "mom in the mommyhood". from her business making custom ring slings and mei tais, to running a daycare, raising 2 children, being crafty and the inspirational story of her family, she won me over hands down. i just had to find out how this cheerful mom does it all and with a giant smile on her face.

i've had tons of fun getting to know melissa and thank her for her patience as i delayed her interview over and over again due to my being joined at the hip with my toilet in the first trimester of my pregnancy. she was a sweetheart about it all and so kindly just checked in on me every few weeks. her loyal customers speak volumes for her and her business ethic, and in fact, one of them is posted below for winning a photo contest hosted on indie sunshine. besides selling her stylish baby carriers she also gives other WAHM's a portal to sell their handmade goods for all us mommies to ohhhh and ahhhh over.

so let's all let some sunshine in our homes and welcome this fun loving momma to the mommyhood, feel free to share your thoughts and questions in the comments below. come sit on down and join us for a cup of coffee, put the kids down for a nap, take a breather and let's chat!

if you are new to the mommyhood, our "moms in the mommyhood" features a new mom monthly who currently has their own business (doesn't matter what kind). we try to sit down and have a virtual cup of coffee and ask them all the fun, little questions that we are dying to know. we also try to get a glimpse into their lives and what it's like to have your own business and be the boss of your kids at the same time. we are always on the lookout for new moms to feature. if you know someone or you would like to be featured in this spot, please send us an email at luvinthemommyhood@yahoo.ca. don't be shy - we can't wait to meet you!

now, let's get sipping our coffee, heck grab a yummy treat if you so desire, pull up a chair join in on the fun with me, have a few laughs and get to know melissa:

You have 2 gorgeous kids, Lillianne (Lily), 5 years old and Dillinger (Dillion) 1 year old, are married to hubby James, run an in-home day care and an online business
www.indiesunshine.com – how in the heck to you manage it all and stay sane at the same time?

Time management! I know there are a millions things I have to do in a day. So I prioritize, with my family always coming first, then put everything else in its place. There are days when I wish I could have gotten more accomplished, but as long as my family is happy and my business a success…I have done alright.

What prompted you to start your online business IndieSunshine and tell us a little about it?

When pregnant with my son I cut back on my daycare a lot. Taking care of a newbie is a lot of work! But I still wanted to be a baby wearer, bring in some money, and make time for my favorite hobby, sewing. IndieSunshine was the next logical step. Most of the baby carriers on the market are so expensive. I make affordable carriers and provide space for other WAHM’s to sell their products.

When did you first learn to sew and what type of machine do you use?

My high school offered a sewing class and I took full advantage. After that I sewed with a tiny handheld model. Ha. Eventually my mother in law gave me the most sentimental sewing machine ever. It is the one she used to make my husband’s clothes when he was little, a Sears Kenmore. It requires frequent oiling and service calls, but works like a charm.

What was the first ring sling/mei tai you made? Why did you decide to begin making baby carriers to begin with?

The first sling I made was for my son. I found this gorgeous polka dot fabric. It was unlike any sling I had ever seen. I like to be subtly unique and one of a kind items really appeal to me. That is why I offer custom linen slings. To give each mom a chance to design her own carrier to match her style.

How long does it typically take you to sew a carrier and do you use a certain pattern or did you design it yourself?

I have to admit I have never just sat down and made a carrier start to finish. With two kids running around there is always on interruption. I would say total time on a sling is about an hour. A mei tai is more like 5. Designing my carriers though was the hardest part. I received great feedback from early customers. After lots of trial and redos I am very happy with my end design.

You mention AP (Attachment Parenting) on your site. Can you tell us a bit about Attachment Parenting and what it is?

When most of people refer to attachment parenting they are thinking of Dr. Sears and his “7 B’s” Birth Bonding, Breastfeeding, Babywearing, Bedding close to baby, Believe in the value of your baby’s cry, Beware of baby trainers, and Balance. To me attachment parenting is about being present for every moment of your child’s life. Parenting doesn’t stop at bedtime when they “should be sleeping” and babies don’t have to conform to mommies wishes. Every baby is different and our job as parents is to nurture them into well rounded human beings.

You have a personal blog "documentations on life"where you have some lovely photography. What kind of camera do you use?

Canon Rebel Xsi. I love it! I have always been interested in photography and this camera has allowed me to really get creative.

You sell a vast array of great products for wee ones such as burn busters, custom diapers, hats and accessories, how did you decide what to sell along with your baby carriers and how did you find the products you chose?

It is hard getting started with an online business and any little leg up helps. So I choose moms who have rock solid products and the will to make it work. I go about the internet looking for ladies who are just starting out, maybe they haven’t even opened an etsy yet. A lot of them were selling to other moms via swap boards. After I have tried out their product and chatted with them about how hard they are willing to work, then they are offered to be part of the IndieSunshine team.

Your team is comprised of a very talented group of mommas with wonderful products! I love that they are all creative moms that you have brought under the IndieSunshine umbrella. Do you have any future plans to add more products? How do you find working with the group of moms whose products you currently sell?

These moms are great! I will occasionally google IndieSunshine to see how our name is getting put out there and often times I find one of the other moms promoting my slings. Just as I promote their products anytime I have a chance. And really that is what makes it work. Having lots of people selling the same site. In the future we are going to add homemade soaps, more diaper products…the sky is the limit. I am willing to listen to any WAHM’s pitch and try out her items.

When we first started chatting you mentioned how close your family is and how your husband James suffers from cancer. He’s due to reach remission in March of this year, how have you managed to stay strong and positive for your family during this time and through the birth of your second child?

Life is hard and everyone has a story. When people hear Cancer they always feel sorry for the family and think how hard it must be. I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy. I took our 3 month old daughter to chemo appts so my husband wouldn’t have to be alone. But looking back, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and I am one strong mama!

Does your hubby play a role within IndieSunshine?

James is key in making my business work! He designed my original website and showed me how to use it. At this point I have completely taken over, but anytime I have a problem he rides in a white horse to fix it. Also when I have a new idea he is great to bounce it off of and gives the constructive criticism I need.

Why did you decide to develop your own site and not start on one with a site such as www.etsy.com when starting up your company?

That I also have to credit to James. I started selling from my blog, but soon I was getting to many requests. What do I have in stock? What fabrics do I have? Can I do this or that… I had to expand. DH is a computer technician who does web design on the side. He offered to set up a site and I jumped on it! I feel like sometimes etsy or hyencart stores can get lost in the mix. But once people buy from IndieSunshine they remember where to come back to.

When do you find the time to sew during the day?

Most of my sewing is done on the weekends when I have help with the kids. If I have a custom order during the week I set Dillion to playing in his room which is attached to my sewing area. He will interrupt me from time to time, but that is what keeps me on my toes.

What do you find the pros/cons of starting your own business while being a busy mom to two young children?

Well the obvious con is how busy I am. Finding time for me during the day is nearly impossible. However I love it! I am firm believer in a rolling stone gathers no moss. I just want to keep going, growing, and living life to its fullest. Having IndieSunshine can be frustrating, but the benefits far outweigh the cost.

If you aren’t sewing baby carriers what would you be sewing?

For Christmas James gave me "One-Yard Wonders: 101 Sewing Fabric Projects" and I have barely cracked the cover. So I would love to get into that and make matching mommy/daughter aprons for when Lily and I bake.

What is your one biggest indulgence as a mom?

My camera/photography. The camera was not cheap and who knows how much I have spent on prints. But I love documenting my children. I hope when they grow up they look at the pictures and appreciate them. Rather than think “wish that lady wasn’t flashing the camera in my face all the time!”

I love that your customers are such strong supporters of your products. You currently have a facebook page, have you found this to be an asset to your business and if so how?

It is definitely an asset. Moms who have already bought my slings join, then all their friends see that they joined and want to join to. Well then they need a sling! It is a great domino effect.

Do you have any advice to other moms looking to start an online business? Any lessons you have learned during the start up process that you would like to share?

Be creative. You have to have a sales pitch that is totally unique. People aren’t going to buy a widget from you if a more well known company is already selling widgets. You need to not only have the best widgets in the world, but offer them with a free cookie! People love cookies.

I’m a firm believer in baby wearing; I carried my daughter and still do. Why did you choose ring slings and mei tais instead of many of the other styles of baby carriers to make out there?

The town I live in is as crunchy as Indiana gets. When at Farmers Market I saw 3 main types of carriers, Ring Sling, Mei Tais, and “crotch danglers.” Since babies need to be positioned correctly in carriers to prevent hip problems I knew a forward facing front carrier was not for me. So I set out to make ring slings and mei tais. To me they are the most versatile carriers around. The MT James and I use has a man side for him and a slightly prettier side for when I am using it. So few carriers offer that option. As for slings, after my c-section everything ached and carrying this tiny baby seemed like such a chore. The first time I put on the sling I felt so much better. I stood up straighter, my back didn’t hurt. It was heaven. After our first trip to the grocery store I was sold. There is no way I could have carried him in my arms the whole time and putting babies in infant carriers on carts is dangerous. Not to mention he would have been so far away from my heart. I love snuggling my little man and these carriers make it so much easier.

moments in the mommyhood - whale of a good time!

on our recent vancouver getaway one of our top priorities when we were there was to take mackenzie to the vancouver aquarium. i knew we were going to have fun, but man oh, man, we really had fun. i think we were there for at least 3 hours and enjoyed the beluga and dolphin show. on of our fave things to check out was the 4D theatre - now seriously, this thing was cool. nope, not just cause it was 4D but because you also got wet, got shook, the theatre filled with bubbles, your seat vibrated, you smelt things and i swear the whales were close enough to touch. here's the pics from our little adventure, sorry to bore you with animal shots, but hey, who doesn't love a little animal pic here and there?

what's your fave part of visiting the aquarium? have you been to the vancouver aquarium?

"It took me years and years of trial efforts to work out that there is absolutely no knitting triumph I can achieve that my husband will think is worth being woken up for." ~Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, At Knit's End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much

1) kit knit fingerless mitts (swirling gauntlets) from fiber optica
2) archways sock knitting kit from fiber wild
3) spring bloom hat kit from lille barn
4) make your own organic unisex neck warmer kit from sweet memories quilts

i've been seeing a lot of kits floating around etsy lately and thought it would be fun to see what kind of knitting kits are out there. i have been knitting up a storm lately so it's been on my mind. whether you are a beginner, someone looking to learn or an experienced knitter there are lots of fun kits to choose from.

so don't be shy all you newbie knitters.....if you don't feel like wandering into a store filled with knitting notions and overwhelming yourself, why not try a kit instead? there are a lot of great videos online to show you steps and techniques as well as some of the kits do include great photos of the how to's. i still go online to refresh my memory of stitches i haven't used in a while. i am constantly looking up cast on techniques and double pointed needle tips. so stop procrastinating and give it a try - you won't regret it! it's time to take that first step - stop talking about learning to knit and actually do it.

in other news please go check out the craft hope for haiti etsy shop filled with fabulous handmade items all for charity in haiti or the craft hope website to learn how you can donate your crafted goods for purchase in the shop all to help raise funds for the doctors without borders.

what are your weekend wishes?

notes from the mommyhood - it's bad enough that half our body is already swollen...

looks like one of those dreadful pregnancy side effect has finally hit me. i managed to escape it during my 1st pregnancy, but i haven't been so lucky this time around. yep, you guessed it, the dreaded swollen ankles/legs have hit. yuck! ewwww! owww! and ok, f*&#K! that pretty much sums it up in my book.

c'mon guys, seriously, with all the things pregnant women have to deal with is this really necessary? mine swelled up for the first time around new year's eve. we had friends staying with us and i must admit, i overdid it with the wii playing. yes, i played wii pregnant. i actually did more than play, i took on the fitness age test. i wanted to see how old that thing was going to peg me at when i am wobbling around huge like a whale. damn am i proud to admit that i was 34 - this was wonderful to me since i am only 32. two years extra wasn't bad in my book and i beat all the men at baseball - go home runs! i was so proud of myself, i was whooping around the house prancing like a proud peacock when my legs started to feel funny. i looked down and low and behold, there was the ghastly sight! bah! what a way to ruin my moment!

ahhhh, i remember the days of slender ankles....

i wasn't allowed to play anymore wii after that and had to spend a day or two with my feet up and let me tell you, sleeping like that sucks bad! it finally eased up and went away, but it does return now and again, especially if i am trying to exercise. so now i have to take it easy and probably end up buying ugly shoes to squeeze my swollen toes into. it's bad enough i can't find a half decent maternity swimsuit to wear never mind a cute pair of jeans! pregnancy is getting more stylish, but it's definitely not getting more affordable. not all of us can swing for a pair of pricey "seven's" to wear during our maternity, especially when it's your 2nd baby and you know you sure ain't having anymore.

but enough about my rants on maternity clothes, i could go on about that for a solid week's worth of posts. and before you all start sending me links remember i live in canada and places like the gap and old navy and boo hoo, target won't ship to canada. it breaks my heart. i have to scour ebay to get my hands on those products. so if you know of a great maternity shop online that ships international without charging me an arm and a leg - i'm in!

keep those feet up ladies!

back to the topic on hand, i have been doing the required remedies for my swollen gams:

- drink tons and tons of water
- keep feet elevated
- don't cross your legs
- don't wear tight shoes
- avoid salty foods
- don't sit for too long
- sleep on your left side
- hope your hubby isn't like mine and will actually rub your feet for you
- and exercise.

are there any i'm missing? any tips from real moms instead of some snooty maternity book author? i sure could use a few extra. there should be a support group for us swollen mommies so we can beatch to our heart's content about how our once normal skinned bodies have now turned into stretched out, swollen, aching, and poofy ones. yes it's for a wonderful cause and yes, it's definitely worth it in the end but does that really mean we can't complain about it a little? we are supposed to feel gorgeous and glowing at this point aren't we? i feel a bit irritated i must say. i want to find giselle walking down some city street prancing her tiny preggo body, with no swelling, perfect clothes and her friggin flying lessons and pump her up full with a water hose - eat some meat lady!

what is she - like 9 months here? i was this big at 9 weeks...but then...i'm not a model...i eat.

are you all swelled up like a giant watermelon? comment below and let's console each other and tell ourselves how gorgeous our gams still look even though they sure are poofier!

(p.s. - if you are going to tell me to rush to a doctor, don't worry, i see mine in a few days.)

moments in the mommyhood - chef blue eyes hits the park

she gets me every time with those big blue eyes of hers, whatever mischief she's up to and yes, there is always mischief in our house with this little one, she always manages to soften me up with those baby blues of hers - what a weapon. do you see the twinkle?

whether she's diggin in the muck......

giggling on the swing.............

or trying to hide from daddy...........she's always got that little twinkle in her eye.

mackenzie received the cutest gift from her great grandma and grandpa for xmas, her very first cookbook and a full chef ensemble! priceless! she loves it and so do i. i especially loved that she ripped off her clothes (including her pants) and threw the whole thing on as soon as she opened it and proceeded to run laps around the apartment in her blue panties with a bright red chef outfit on.....priceless! thanks you guys! she asked me if i would put her chef pics up on the site so here you go my little girl.

i also couldn't resist posting some shots of the sunrises lately from the view from our apartment! wowsa! are we in hawaii or victoria? can't beat a gorgeous ocean sunrise! and nope, the color isn't altered, that is what it truly looked like, if anything it was brighter. makes condo living a little bit easier to handle don't ya think?

what's your week been like so far? any mischief? any fellow american idol fans out there? what a week - american idol and project runway premiers, it's almost too much for my little preggo heart to handle!

knitters dilemma - and the winner is..........

last week i posted a poll to help me & my sister camille choose which hat to make for her bday this month. i had a lot of fun with this post and enjoyed reading all of your suggestions and comments! thanks for voting everyone!

the polls have closed and the winner is.......................

in second place.............

and in third place.....................

the funny thing about the poll was that the winner is actually a hat i have been dying to make for myself and finally got the book from the library, 3rd place is actually from the same book "boutique knits: 20+ must have accessories" by laura irwin. it's a gorgeous book filled with lots of yummy must knit patterns! i recommend it! you can also read more about the author laura irwin on her blog .

needless to say i will be making the first place hat for myself and prolly the other two as well, heck why not the whole poll.....i love hats!

the hat in 2nd place has been on my must knit list for ages and i adore it. i had chosen it as my top pick for camille. i was quite surprised though when i did show camille the poll and the results, her choices were way different than most of ours were and from what i had chosen. her top pick was for "pasha" by one of my fave knit designers (and our first mom in the mommyhood) jane richmond, second to that was the "star crossed slouchy beret" by natalie larson and then the "robin's egg blue" hat from rachel iufer, which i call the banana republic hat.

now i wanted my baby sis to be happy so i ended up going along with her choice and making pasha for her and decided to whip up the sideways grande cloche for myself. i will be doing a post later this month with my sister modelling the finished hat and a giveaway so stay tuned!

i hope you all got some great new hat pattern ideas and maybe the post inspired you to try knitting and give one of them a go. it's a very rewarding, addicting, soothing and relaxing craft if i must say so myself.

did you decide to make any of the hats and if so which one did you choose?

etsy monday in the mommyhood

"marge, you being a cop makes you the man! which makes me the woman - and i have no interest in that, besides occasionally wearing the underwear, which as we discussed, is strictly a comfort thing". ~ dan castellaneta

1) ruffle panties from isabumz
2) pink ruffle bloomers from mabellabel
3) lucy's potty pants, retro baby glamour w/zebra ruffles from vintage lucy's
4) flower and vine diaper covers from earthgroovz

what girl doesn't love a cute pantie? we've been potty training in our house lately trying to get mack all trained up before the baby comes to cut down on the diapers. she's doing great and we realized part of what is so fun for her is picking out her panties.

i decided to pop over to etsy and see just what kind of neat panties i could find for toddlers and maybe a few ideas to try my hand at making a few for her on my own. i did this post on making your own undies months ago and still haven't had the time to give it a go. have any of you made any for your wee ones or yourself? i think it looks like fun!

a little nudity goes a long way when it comes to sewing....on tv that is

i've been feeling a sad sort of withdrawal now that project runway has ended and canada can't seem to get season 3 going. any word anyone? i have hunted and there is no news on when season 3 will be airing, fill me in if you have heard any gossip :) in the meantime i was more than thrilled to find bravo's new show "launch my line".

there has been no shortage of nudity (and not all good nudity), cat fights, animal themes, nasty partnerships and a very, very, eclectic cast of characters. i'm up to date to episode 4 and have so far enjoyed it. it's definitely not project runway, but if you are looking to fill the void, it will do the trick. plus the hosts, dsquared, are canadian and you know how us canadians love to support each other :P

have you been watching? who's your fave? i'm really liking merle, marilyn and kathy rose. i'm just so glad kathy rose stopped burning that damn sage all the time. that would drive me bonkers! so comment below, let's chat about it! i'm in the mood for some sewing gossip!

knitters dilemma - which hat should it be for cami?

so my baby sister camille nicely asked for a new hat for her bday this month and i am more than happy to oblige her request - i love a great hat! the problem is our family is known for our indecisiveness at times and i already foresee a prob of being able to pick out what pattern to use. she's a bit picky, likes only neutrals and things that aren't too flashy so that gives me a great starting point, but i thought - hey, why not have a poll! there are a lot of patterns listed, but please don't run away, they are worth a peek at. i had a hard time weeding down my faves....so knitters unite, which hat should it be for cami?

(p.s. - i linked all the patterns for you guys, but they are all on ravelry. if you aren't a member on ravelry - what are you waiting for? come join in on all the fun! )

now click on the poll below and vote for your fave hat! the poll will be open till sunday, january the 10th and i'll post the results next week. if you know of a great hat pattern that you adore and it's not shown here please leave a link in the comment section, we would love to see it! thanks for your picks!

*Added January 13, 2010 - you can find the results here!

moments in the mommyhood - baby bellies, tongues and skates

i was going to post some xmas photos here but then realized i just had way too many cute ones so here's a few pics from the last few weeks that are some of our faves.

the belly - 22 weeks

our little beauty in the tub

like daddy like daughter

first time skating

like mommy like daughter

looking through our pics for the last month or so i realized we stick our tongues out a lot in our photos....oh well...haha. mack had fun for her first time skating but i had a hard time just watching and missing out on all the action. me and the baby to be watched from the sidelines taking pics. mackenzie loved it and can't wait to go back again. don't you just love those first moments? so precious.

what have you been up to over the holidays? any firsts for you?

makin' it in the mommyhood - xmas pressies

first off, happy new year's everyone! i hope you all had a wonderful holiday. mine was great but went by way too fast if you ask me! hubby is back at work and we are left with a quiet house that seems just a bit sad without all the company and that friendly, cheerful xmas tree. doesn't help to have it be the most miserable and rainy day today.

over the last few weeks i finally managed to get myself back on the sewing machine to make a few xmas pressies. i thought i would show you all what i had been up to. it was lots of fun and i really missed my good ol' machine. now that xmas is over i have lots of baby items on the list. santa brought me lotta jansdotter's book "simple sewing for baby" to go with my new marble rolling pin (yep, i was a good girl so santa finally got me one) which i friggin adore! i think i am going to make everything in that book! so great and filled with some handy, simple and resourceful projects.

anyhoo, back to the xmas pressies, here we go.............

(ps. - sorry the pics are not the greatest for all of these, the weather was horrible and i just gave up waiting for good lighting.)

camille and miranda's "margaret bag"

firstly, i am addicted, and i mean addicted to elizabeth's pattern from oh fransson for "the margaret bag". i made two of them and can't wait to make one for myself. this seriously is the best sized bag, the pleat and button detail is adorable and it's super stylish! i can't seem to stop! here's the ones i made for my sister and my sister in law for xmas.

fabric bookmark and reversible book cover

next up i made my mother in law a reversible fabric book cover and bookmark. i used this pic over on sew mama sew as inspiration for the bookmark (if anyone knows of a tutorial for this let me know) and this tutorial for the book cover.

suit up calculator cover

my hubby is an accountant. i am sure you have all heard my rants about his career before so i won't get into that today..haha, but him being an accountant means he uses a calculator - a lot. he got a new financial calculator for some of his classes he is taking and nicely asked me for a new case for his little pal. i thought why not dress the thing up. give it some sass, while, manly sass anyways. i decided to take some material from a pair of his old dress pants (dark grey for outer case) and an old dress shirt (light grey for loop and lining) and made the calculator a suit...haha, yep a suit. that's what i call it anyways, it reminds me of him and of an accountant in general - sorry hun :P

i mean really, where the heck to do you find a tutorial for a financial calculator case? i had to wing it. it was quite simple as i've made cases for our camera's/ipods before but i decided to do this one sideways and lined it seamless on the inside. if anyone is interested in how to make this please let me know. i have no aversion in doing a tute but figured i won't if i'm the only person on the planet who cares to make one of these bad boys. so low and behold, here he is, in the words of barney from "how i met your mother" - suit up!

mom's "pincushion organizer"

during the last year my mom and i decided to take on the task of learning to quilt. i started with a baby quilt that i winged the pattern on my own and my mom decided to start with a queen size quilt and a lot of cutting. she is just finishing hers up this month. i think she was nuts to start that way, but it worked for her and we have both ended up learning a lot through each method of our chosen methods.

we both complained a lot to each other about all the little loose threads we are repeatedly cutting while quilting and all the wee tools you use and how tricky it was to keep track of everything and all the damn pins while you quilt on the couch. so i decided aha - why not make her the "pincushion organizer" from oh fransson (i know, this woman is just too talented for me to resist making all her tutes). this tute was so easy to follow, so rewarding to make, and i think it turned out fab. the only thing that would have been better is if i could have seen my mom's face when she opened it on xmas morning.

my very own pincushion

the last thing i have made recently was for myself. i was looking through my sewing supplies and realized i seriously did not own a pin cushion! it was getting to be a royal pain in my preggo ars so i decided to finally make one. i followed this cute little tute from paper string cloth now hyena in petticoats to whip one up of my own.

phew - i think that about sums up the xmas pressie sewing. i still have some knitting on my needles that i will hopefully be showing soon. for now, i've got a toddler waiting to color, a baby pushing on my bladder, lunch mess to clean up, laundry to do and a yummy cup of tea to finish drinking.

in the meantime, share away. what did you sew this xmas? any great projects/tutorials you're dying to share? i would love to hear about them.

baby girl roundup

(image via: charlotte speaks)

yep, you heard right, well sort of right, the ultrasound may have showed a girl. for some reason i don't feel 100% with the gender, i have way too many friends be told their babies were girls and oops - out came a boy! so in the meantime it's a "maybe girl" in our house.

i have been meaning to put up an ultrasound pic of the baby, man this one is a real mover/shaker, but the pics i scanned in just won't seem to cooperate with photoshop - do not ask me why. so sorry folks, no baby pics yet. hopefully we will get a few more, it sounds like we will be having another ultrasound.

in the meantime, i decided to do a roundup of all my fave baby girl tutes out there! there are a lot, but these just happen to be in my personal favorites on my computer. i recently cleaned this out (have any of you had the guts to do this lately?) and man oh man, quite the shocker! this thing was friggin' ginormous! huge! it took me a few hours just to do my sewing folder, not to mention crafts etc. but it's done, i conquered the beast.

i've been slacking on posting big time as we are getting ready for xmas here and i have been sewing again - yippee! i can't post any pics yet as they are all gifts and it would just ruin the surprise. i have also been doing some blog housekeeping and making plans for the new year. i am hoping (fingers crossed) that the site will be up and back to normal in the new year, until then i am taking it easy and enjoying all the yummy scrumptious family time we have coming up. so without further ado here's luvinthemommyhood's baby girl roundup.
